System Requirements for Moderators/Presenters


System Requirements for Moderators

As a moderator or presenter using the Meeting Center, your computer must meet the following requirements:

Browser:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher   
OR
Netscape Navigator 4.7x™ and 4.8  (Video is not supported with any Netscape version.)

Additional browser requirements:
Java enabled*
Java script enabled
Session cookies enabled

*Microsoft Java Virtual Machine must be present on your computer, build VM2339 or higher, except build VM3155.  Current latest version is VM3810.
OR
*Sun Java Virtual Machine must be present on your computer, VM 1.4.2_03 or higher

Computer:
CPU and RAM minimum requirements depend on the operating system used.

P400 or equivalent with 32 MB RAM. Requirement increases slightly with number of viewers.
P400 with 128 MB RAM is recommended for application sharing.

Operating System:
Windows 98/NT 4.0/2000/XP

Network:
Internet connection of 56K minimum for Application Sharing.
Internet connection of 128K minimum for broadcasting video.

Audio:
A telephone (touch-tone telephone may be required)

Video:
For Broadcasting Video: Industry-standard video camera (WebCam - Compatible with Microsoft Windows) and the correct drivers for your camera.

Note: An ActiveX plug-in installation is required for broadcasting video.

Also, the quality of the camera will determine how well your video will appear at the other end. When evaluating camera quality, make sure you test how your image will be displayed to others. Consider how you plan to use your camera and make sure the camera supports the features you want, for example, auto-focus, an ability to pan, tilt and zoom, or a wide-angle lens.

Streaming Media Minimum Requirements:

Streaming Media Custom Streaming:

Software:

To utilize a custom stream you may use either:
Microsoft Media Server  
OR
RealNetworks Server (Note: If RealNetworks is used for custom streaming, the archiving option will not be available.)

Hardware:

Industry-standard video camera (video) and the correct drivers for your camera.
Industry-standard microphone (audio)

Streaming Media Archive playback requirements:

Basic *Microsoft Media Player
Java VM requirement for Windows NT4.0/2000/XP is VM 2339 or later. However, Windows 95/98 requires VM 3805 or higher for archives with application sharing sessions.
